MECHANICAL PROCESSING
Mechanical processing
Our product family MechPro offers all materials you need for mechanical processing of printed circuit boards.
Drilling
Entry material based on aluminium
Our Aluminium entry material consists of the alloy AW-3105. The chemical designation is AlMn0.5Mg0.5. The product is available in various thicknesses. The material has a very high hardness to achieve best results in the drilling process.
Entry material based on phenolic paper
This entry material consists of paper, which is saturated with phenolic resin and then pressed and fully cured in a hydraulic press. The material is smooth, has a hard surface and does not smell. As entry material it is available in thickness 0.5 and 0.8 mm.
Further information is available in the technical datasheet.
LC25: backup material made of MDF
LC25 is a backup material made of MDF (medium density fiber). It is a cheap backup material used for mechanical drilling of printed circuit boards. If you have higher requirements regarding quality we recommend our product PHP (phenolic paper) and MP6 (melamine coated wood fiber plate with high density (HDF))
MP6: backup material made of melamine coated HDF
This backup material MP6 consists of a wood fiber plate with high density (HDF). In addition the plate is coated and cured with melamine resin on both sides. The melamine coating guarantees a high surface hardness, which gives a good drilling quality.
- minimized burr
- reduced smearing
- minimized roughness in the hole wall
PHP: backup material made of phenolic paper
This backup material consists of paper, which is saturated with phenolic resin and then pressed and fully cured in a hydraulic press. The material is smooth, has a hard surface and does not smell. As backup material it is available in thickness 1.0; 1.5 and 2.0 mm.
Further information is available in the technical datasheet.
Routing
Routing entry board of phenolic paper, 0.5 or 0.8 mm thick
These routing boards have two main purposes:
a) Protection of the circuit surface
Phenolic paper 0.8 mm thick is suitable for most applications
b) Protection of the edges from damage caused by bulging
We recommend cover layers of glass fabric laminate (FR4) 0.3 mm thick for processing soft materials (e.g. PTFE base materials)
MSC delivers all routing materials cut to specification and, on request, with extra cleaned surfaces.
Further information is available in the technical datasheet.
Routing plate Safetool, 6.35 and 9.5 mm
Precision Base Plates for Drilling and Routing Machines.
Special features:
- Very smooth surface cleaned on both sides (roughness depth < 3 µ)
- Outer layer hardness equal to 90 Shore D
- Registration pins can be reused repeatedly in the same drill holes
- Mechanically very stable
- Can be used on both sides
Further information is available in the technical datasheet.
Punching
Cutting boards for strip steel tools
MSC offers a tool-protecting cutting board made of high-density, calendared EPS for stamping flexible circuits with strip steel tools.
Important: this material does not fibrillate, meaning your tools last longer.
Colour: red-brown
Surface: smooth, lint-free and abrasion-resistant
Hardness: > 60 Shore D
Thickness: 0.70 mm
Delivery format: according to customer specification

FR4: plates with tighter thickness tolerance
With our precision surface grinding machine FR4 plates can be grinded with very tight thickness tolerances.
Maximum machine width of 1350 mm with three sanding stations on hardened steel rollers.
Achievable thickness tolerance ± 50 µm.
Example: FR4 unclad in 4.00 mm
The normal thickness tolerance for that product is 4.00 ± 0.30 mm.
By grinding with our machine we can deliver 4.00 ± 0.05 mm.
Cut to size available.
